31 January 2001 | The Final Countdown
As you may have already heard, Payback has now been finished and sent to the duplicators. It should be ready to go on sale in about 2 weeks, with a playable demo being released at the same time. I would also like to take this opportunity to clarify that Apex Designs are both the publishers and developers of Payback and that you will be able to buy the game directly from us (we will offer secure credit and debit card ordering facilities). You will also be able to purchase it from Blittersoft if you don't want to order through the Internet or you'd just prefer to deal with a more established company - although we'd obviously prefer you to order directly from us if you feel comfortable doing so. In the meantime you can find out how to pre-order by clicking here.
Anyway, here's what has been added to the game since the last update:
- A raytraced introduction has been added. You can choose whether or not you wish to install this to your hard-disk - if you don't, the animation will only be played if you have the Payback CD in your drive.
- A new band agreed to have two of their songs added to the soundtrack. The band is Dispatch and the songs are The General and Headlights. You can find out more about the band and their music at www.dispatchmusic.com.
- Unfortunately, I was unable to include the Norwegian translation on the game CD because the translator wasn't able to provide it in time. However, once the game has been released I'll make the translation available for free download from this site and other sources. All the other languages mentioned in earlier updates (namely English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Czech, Swedish, Serbian and Slovenian) have been included as promised.
- A map editor has been added. The game includes a sample map, and users are actively encouraged to make their own levels and send them to me so that I can put them up on the site for other players to enjoy.
- The packaging has been designed. The front and back of the box are shown below:

- An advert has also been designed. Expect to see this in the next few issues of Amigactive and other magazines:

Well, that's it! It's a cliche, but I hope you enjoy playing the game as much as I enjoyed making it. If you want to be emailed when the game and demo are released, don't forget to join our Mailing List.
